What is the High Pointe Institute?

The High Pointe Institute (HPI) is a one-year (two semester) discipleship program meant to offer a pathway for growing disciples to be equipped for ministry both in the church and the world. The goal is to form mature disciples who are growing in their knowledge and love for God, who take ownership of High Pointe’s ministries and mission, and who are committed to helping others follow Christ. This program will instill a commitment to Scripture and a better grasp of the biblical story line, a solid foundation in Christian doctrine, and an increasing ability to connect theology to one's life, worship, and mission.

What will be taught?

Utilizing categories from Michael Horton’s Pilgrim Theology, HPI organizes its subject matter under four headings: Drama, Doctrine, Doxology, and Discipleship. Together, these four headings offer a robust framework in which to pursue theological formation and discipleship. There is no cost for the class, but participants are encouraged to buy their own books (the syllabus with the book list can be found here).

Who is HPI for?

HPI is designed for growing disciples of Christ who desire to be equipped for ministry and mission in whatever context God has placed them. All men and women are encouraged to participate. HPI is designed with High Pointe members in mind, but it is not limited to members.

When does HPI take place?

The class will meet on Wednesday nights from 6:30-8:00pm and will run from September 4 through May 20 (except for certain 'off' nights during the semester that are specified in the syllabus, as well as a winter break).

What are the expectations for participants?

  • Attendance and class participation
  • Participation in cohort discussions
  • Weekly assigned reading
  • Practical "field" assignments (spiritual disciplines, discipleship, evangelism interviews)
